Dmitri's Introduction to Nanoworld

Curious about the nanoworld?
The stories on this site are about a part of nanoworld that lies somewhere between the "wizardry"
of futuristic nanomachines or built atom-by-atom quantum corrals
and "gadgets" from the familiar world of microelectronics.

Wonder who is Dmitri to talk about nanotechnology? Take a look at my resume.

My current interest is primarily in application of nanotechnology for biosensors.
A few years ago however, I earned my Ph. D. studying nanostructures as a member of a UW-Madison research group.
Those included silicon templates with nanometer-scale steps, self-assembled arrays of nanowires and dots,
and quasi one-dimensional materials.

The links below will take you to see these nanostructures.
And, as always, please let me know if something does not work.

Dmitri's Research Projects

Stepped Silicon Nano-Templates
CaF2 Nanostructures
Surface 1D Structures

STM Chemical Imaging
STM Image Processing

Spin-Polarized STM

Quick Overview of Tools & Techniques

STM Basics
Photoemission

Dmitri's best guess for the difficulty of material:
the first 3 "projects" and both "quick overviews" maybe of more general interest.
The last 4 "projects" are more specialized, but all include illustrations and general introductions.

ideas on their real-life applications and, of course, pretty STM pictures.
